count your blessings
“I learned what is obvious to a child. That life is simply a collection of little lives, each lived one day at a time. That each day should be spent finding beauty in flowers and poetry and talking to animals. That a day spent with dreaming and sunsets and refreshing breezes cannot be bettered.” - Nicholas Sparks
Whenever death hits, it's like a reality check as if to say "Wake up, take a look at your life. Are you doing all that you can to appreciate it, feel blessed, realize how lucky you are, and enjoy it?" So I always slow down and take a minute to reflect. Often times I forget to think of things that might seem like simple necessities, but that so many people are not fortunate enough to have. Then I think, the little things really are the big things.
Death doesn't stop for anyone. I know that we know that as a fact, but sometimes I feel as if I forget that. I forget in the hussle and bussle of life that no one is guaranteed tomorrow, or even the next few minutes or hours. That death can hit and change your life in the blink of an eye. It's scary, but maybe if I really looked at life in just that way I would do things differently, atleast I hope I would.
Death comes and we will never be able to dodge it in a way where we are never affected by it. Sometimes I can get so caught up in the things that I want, the things that I wish I had - but at the end of the day, I realize that I have everything that I would ever need. The things I want will not make a difference in the years to come. I have a wonderful parents who have sacrified so much of themselves and who would love me and support me through anything. They have modeled what a healthy relationship is like and have shown me what it's like to grow and experience life with your best friend. I have a roof over my head, a bed to sleep in every night, food to eat, water to drink, air conditioning when it's cold and heat when it's hot. I live in an area that is absolutely beautiful and I am beginning to take in all it's beauty everyday. Today I'm going to really reflect and come up with a list of everything I am grateful for and then I'll share it with you.
but I am curious to know...
What is it that you are grateful for?
