The Blind Side

I cried so hard when I watched the preview. This is the movie based off of the book written by Michael Lewis about the life of Michael Oher, who is now a Baltimore Raven (#74!). It talks about his upbringing in poverty and how a wealthy family took him in. Not only do I love a good heartwarming tale that really gets the waterworks going, but this is a story about a Baltimore Raven and you know that I love my Ravens. My dad was such a fan of this boy and always talked about how he had such a cinderella story when he was drafted to the Ravens and I've been a fan of him every since. My dad was like "You really should hear about this boys life and where he came from..." and so now I get to see it on the big screen. Tim McGraw is the father in the movie and Sandra Bullock is the mother and I just LOVE Sandra Bullock - always have and always will. I love her character in the movie too, I feel like that's what I hope to be like as a mama :) I think Quinton Aaron who plays Michael in the movie does a great job playing the character just in how he interacts and in his body language. My dad's reading the book now, but I hope to read it soon before I see the movie. I definitely want to read it before I see it because I heard the book is great. I just hope the movie does it justice. I love a good good warming, tear-jerker, and even better when it mixes in the lessons that young boys can learn about life from football.
Precious

This movie is based on the book Push by Sapphire. It's a heartbreaking story about an overweight 16 year old girl dealing with weight issues, illiteracy, abuse, incest, and rape. She's raped by her father, abused by her mother, and is illiterate, but by being enrolled in literacy classes and forming a relationship with the teacher she is realizes things about herself and turns her life around. I feel like this movie is so powerful because it opens everyone up to real issues that exist everyday that I can't even being to imagine enduring as a child.
I worked in a school with children with emotional and behavioral issues and their pasts and upbringing were similar to that of the characters. The first thing I thought of when I saw Michael and Precious was their striking resemblance to two children I worked with - I mean looks, body language, just everything. I just started crying after seeing the previews. These stories just make it hit home to me how the presence of just one person can make a in a child's life and just how important it is to get involved with kids who need us the most.
Watch the trailers! The Blind Side comes out November 20th and Precious comes out on November 6th - this Friday!

I stayed up till almost 3:30 last night starting the book, and I'm well into 100 pages. I could not put it down! I can't wait to see the movie!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see The Blind Side. The family that adopted him went to my high school, so I'm excited to see how they show my school and our football coach (who got a coaching job at Ole Miss when Michael Oher was recruited there). So excited! I want to read the book as well, but don't know if I'll get to it before the movie or after.
