I've always had a fascination with houses and could spend hours perusing real estate websites. It's always interesting to see how people decorate their homes both inside and out. I love historic homes...old and full of character, plantation homes, big farmhouses, renovated bungalows, and anything big, Southern, and stately. I don't know if anyone else does this-but I have a few folders on my computer where I save pictures of houses I come across on real estate sites and in magazines to inspire me for when I ever buy (or build) a future home. One of the things I want MOST on my house? A BIG front porch! They are such a tranquil place. I often imagine myself out there enjoying breakfast or a cup of coffee, unwinding at the end of the day with the sun setting and watching fireflies, and a place I could entertain friends.
I know when I drive through a quaint little towns, one of the first things I notice are the porches on all the old homes. I'd love to live in a little town where everyone lived close together and spent the evening on their porches...waving and chatting to passerbys. There are few things as Southern in culture and as fond in memories as the front porch, and as
this newspaper article put it..."The front porch never knew a stranger."
It seems Front Porch Sitting is not just a thing to do, but a state of mind.

not my own]
Love them! I do the same thing, I have so many photos of houses and rooms I love. Mmm, I can't wait to have one of my own.
ReplyDeleteI agree - nothing makes the day better than sitting on the front porch and drinking a big glass of sweet tea :) love those porches with the hardwood floors, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love historic homes too! Spending a lazy afternoon on a front poor is a perfect day!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous of these porches! Our house now won't have a big front porch, but I'll compromise because of my oasis in the back yard (isn't there yet but it will be)!!
